Social Networking in the Wide World of Sports

Any time you watch Sportscenter these days you are guaranteed to here something about Social Networking. It seems that every athlete has a Twitter account and many followers. When an issue concerning a player comes up, the athlete used to send a public statement to ESPN, now the trend is to post it on your Twitter account. There has also been major stories broken through Twitter, Allen Iverson has been a free agent all summer, followers of Iverson knew days before the Memphis Grizzlies came out with a statement where Iverson would be playing. "Celebrity Tweeters" like Dwight Howard and Chad "Ochocinco" have the most followers and have there accounts reported on almost daily by ESPN. It is amazing the influence of Twitter and other social networking cites have on the media.
